Biotreatment of Electroplating Industrial Effluent Using Coconut Husk
نویسنده
چکیده
The treatment of electroplating industrial effluent by coconut husk was carried out by analyzing the physico-chemical parameters of the effluent such as pH, salinity, calcium, magnesium, phosphates, nitrates, BOD3 30C̊ and total solids using standard methods. The efficiency of coconut husk was tested by using it in different quantities such as 25, 50, 75 and 100 grams for five days. As a result, it was found that 100 grams of coconut husk exhibited greater treatment efficiency and significantly reduced the salinity, calcium, magnesium, phosphates, nitrates and BOD in the treated effluent. Thus, it is evident that this biological treatment using coconut husk is cost effective and eco-friendly.

In acute toxicity (96 hr) experiment the fingerlings of freshwater fish Labeo rohita was exposed to tannery, electroplating and textile mill effluents. The LC0 and LC50 concentrations were 15% and 20% for tannery effluents, 3% and 6% for electroplating effluents and 18% and 22% for textile mill effluents respectively. It was found that, electroplating effluent was more toxic than tannery and te...
